Low Impact Living gives the Low Down On Living Green
I recently saw another solution at a green show here in LA – the Rainwater Pillow, designed by Jim Harrington, a landscape designer in the Atlanta area. It’s basically a big flat rubber bag that allows you to store and then reuse rainwater for landscape purposes.
Water, water, NOT everywhere … The theme of the May issue is water conservation. Across the nation, water is becoming a big issue, and savvy builders need to know the options they have in order to comply with the mandates that seem to be cropping up all over.
We just got some rainwater collection barrels for our house a few weeks ago. A great local company called Catch the Rain brought them right to us. We have a decent little garden plot so I am pretty excited about catching and storing rainwater to keep it hydrated.
Rainwater Collection Solutions was awarded the 2008 Green Innovations award for their Rainwater Irrigation system. The system design incorporates a fully automatic rainwater collection system connected to a lawn irrigation system and control clock.
It’s a far cry from a “tree huggers convention” that began in 2002 in Austin, Texas with only 4000 people in attendance. This years’ 2009 GreenBuild International Conference and Expo drew more than 27,000 architects, developers, builders & innovators, making it clear that a movement is well underway.
